NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, February 24, 2008
Another exciting week!!!! Lot's of bundling of fat quarters, rearranging to put new collections out, getting things ready for a road trip--------------oops!!! here comes some bad weather, cancel the trip, take a day off. This is becoming all too familiar. The bus company was leery about the prognosis of ice, I certainly did not want the responsibility of a lot of people on the road, bus drivers and a bus, so home we stayed. Sorry for all that were disappointed.
My friend Kathy Palmer had written two lovely comments on the blog about the trip and then cancellation. It was a reminder to me that everyone should make the comments they feel they would like to share. You can read them by looking at the end of a blog and clicking on the "comment" button.
Regarding Kathy's comment about future trips, I have asked her to help me plan some of those trips. Stay tuned for some exciting news for future trips. We will be doing a lot more of this type of event.
Another sad comment I have to make--we have collected a large number of "quilt pink" blocks. The dead line for those quilts is March 1. I have simply not had time and weather has been one complication, so these blocks will be put together at a later time and we will make the deadline for next year. More to come on this also.
We did follow the school closing policy this past week. With another prediction of upcoming weather, call the shop if you have a question---if we don't answer then obviously we have stayed home.
I have added two more shows to the lineup. I will have them posted on the show button. One is the Millennium Show in Bridgeport on July 10 and 11. And then the West Virginia Quilt Assn. show in Morgantown on July 18, 19 and 20. Then I will be off to Hershey for Quilt Odyssey July 24, 25, 26, and 27. I am planning a vacation the first of August---do you think I might need it?
Stay warm, stay busy with your projects, see you soon---Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, February 17, 2008
Another busy week and, since we had two days off last week, even more to do this week. We are still trying to get the new fabric cut into fat quarters and out for display. As I mentioned last week, we have several new collections that you are going to love. We also have new labels. If you are looking for a nice quilt-friend gift or need labels yourself, this panel with several dozen labels is a nice one to have, with several different flavors that will add a nice touch to any project. The new collections really do have a "spring" flare. Florals and more spring-life colors will make you think of June weddings, graduates and a new lease on life around the house. One new panel from Moda invokes a lovely feel in turqoise and browns. Another collection has pansy theme that will make your heart sing.
Our bus trip will roll out of Martinsburg on Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. If you have not signed up yet, we have a couple of spaces open---don't let this fun-filled group leave town without out!!!
The quilt show circuit will start in March---check the list on the link above so that you can make your plans to enjoy all of the local shows. I still have a couple that need to be added and I added another one this week that we will be vending at later in the year.
See you soon---Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, February 10, 2008
Back from Retreat!!! Tired but totally satisfied from spending three days with good friends, good food, and good fun. I don't remember when I saw so many people get so much accomplished. The quilt pieces were flying together, hastily put away to be replaced by another wave of pieces that just as quickly were put together. I think that everyone present got at least two things finished and some people got three and four projects finished. Even Lana who was under the weather part of the time got three projects finished. And the food---no words can describe the food but maybe fantastic.
Among the things that I finished was the Wizard of Oz project. I don't have the borders on yet but I do have the top completed to a point that I think everyone will get a great inspiration for making one of their own.
We have several new collections ready to put out this week. Spring prints and flowers should give everyone a thought about the coming season. Come in and check them out!!!

NOTES FROM THE LODGE February 4, 2008
Happy February!!! Everyone who came to our Super Bowl Sunday Sale enjoyed all the bargains that we had out---red, white and blue was the theme but I had put out a lot of flatfolds, some kits and wide backings. Sorry the backings are gone, a lot of the flatfolds and kits as well as some new books on sale are also gone. But the good news is that there are still a lot of flat folds left, a number of kits and a few books. Stop by and check out the sale items outside the shop and then come in for some new arrivals.
The newest and best thing we have is the Wizard of Oz fabric line. We have Under the Rainbow and Over the Rainbow color ways. Dorothy, the Wicked Witch, yellow brick road, blue gingham dress, ruby slippers, majic wands---it is all there to tickle your fancy and fanatasy. A sepia-toned panel with all the "under or before" the rainbow scenes and then a vivid, technicolor panel with all of the "over" the rainbow scenes. A number of sepia and color pieces to make these panels come alive. Come in and check in out, put your thinking caps on and figure out what you will do with this once in a lifetime fabric.
I met today with some delightful women who run the Shenandoah Women's Center. I am working with them to plan some events that will culminate in their 30th Anniversary. I will be asking for your help in the future for some fun and very worthwhile events. I will also be asking for anyone who would be interested in joining me in forming an aucilliary for this very deserving group.
This weekend I will be attending retreat with a lively group of quilters. It looks like the weather will be nice for our time in Sharpsburg. I look forward to seeing you soon. Barbara
