NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, April 27, 2008

WHEW!!!! Home from the Berryville Quilt Show and missing my Tunisian visitor---I'm fairly exhausted!!! I'm fairly exhausted but energized with thoughts for the future and upcoming events.

First, I totally enjoyed the young woman from Tunisia that spent the past week with me. She was part of a team from Rotary District 9010 which is comprised of Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria. There were five members of the team, each hosted by a different family here in Martinsburg. These young adults are all professionals in different areas and are here in the US visiting our Rotary District and various businesses in their field. Eya Kaddour was my house guest (a picture of Eya and I is at the top of the page)--a 35 female with her own marketing business. We had a lovely time together and it was fascinating for me to see the world through eyes from another culture and opposite side of the world. Eya is an outstanding ambassador of the world, and I believe that the world is in pretty good hands.

The show in Berryville was wonderful---a lively group of vendors, a lovely display of quilts and a great weekend all around. If you did not stop by the booth, you missed some of the great ideas I have for gifts and easy quilts for upcoming grads and brides. Come see me at the shop to find out what new things are out there to get started on now to make Christmas 2008 the best giving you have ever done.

This coming Saturday will be our 2nd Sidewalk Sale event. Once again on Saturday, we will put out the table in front of the shop on the sidewalk and offer you bargains galore!!!! This event will be in conjunction with the event on Queen Street--make Martinsburg the place you spend on Saturday.

Come see us---we have some new fabrics and other things going on that you haven't seen. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, April 20, 2008

Home from the Hagerstown show, tired but happy!!! It was a busy two days at the show in Hagerstown but the ladies from Hagerstown and Greensboro do such a lovely job of setting up and running their biannual show. A great group of vendors and the quilts were really top notch. If you got to the show, you know what I'm talking about, if you missed out, they will be back in business in two years--put it on your list.

Next is the Berryville show this coming weekend. Another great opportunity to see great quilts and a different set of vendors. My friend, Donna Rupert, Piecing the Past and Nutmeg Lodge are the only two common vendors at the show. As I have mentioned before, I have a lot of things you have not seen at the shop and prices that are worth your while to stop and shop at the booth. I will have a few more new things this coming weekend that were not at Hagerstown--plus I sold out of several things and that was a good thing.

My right hand--Judy Darlington really saved me on Friday when I was setting up for the show. I have said this before, but I have a great group of ladies that work with me at Nutmeg Lodge and I really appreciate all that they do for me and you. Judy not only stays busy working at the shop, helping out with grand kids, etc. but she also teaches aerobics classes. She has an unannounced class through Berkeley County Adult Ed. It is Class 202A. Aerobic workout dance Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-7 pm beginning April 28, 2008. 6 weeks is $40.00 Call 304-267-3585 for more information. Kathy has also put this at the top of the web page for your information also.

In addition to the upcoming show I am also hosting a visitor from Tunisia through my Rotary Club. I am still working on a class schedule and am hoping to get that all pulled together soon--I promise!!!!

One more word---throughout our history, women have faced econimic crisis by making things for the home and for gifts. Now is a time for all of us to walk in our foremother's footsteps and think about making more of our Christmas gifts as well as wedding, graduation, birthday and any special occastion gifts. We are always ready with easy and innovative ideas to help you with your projects.

See you at the shop and at the Berryville show----Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, April 13, 2008

Hi Everyone!!!! Boy, the weather has been super---I'm sure you have enjoyed it as much as I have---a couple of cold days allowed me to get some bindings sewn down and that was a good thing. I have been busily putting the finishing touches on samples for the upcoming shows. As I have mentioned before, don't forget to stop and shop at Nutmeg Lodge's booth at all of the upcoming shows. I will have things in the booth that you have not seen in the shop before and, best of all, will have prices that you can't get at the shop either. And, once again, the upcoming Hagerstown show runs this coming Saturday and Sunday---a coupon at the shop will give you $1.00 off your admissions. Then the following weekend is the Berryville show. Both of these shows offer you some great vendors and wonderful quilts made by local quilters.

I've recently received an email asking about Elly's new fabric--as always we have the entire line called Remember Me. If you are looking for it, have not seen it, etc. come by, call or email us and we can get it to you right away. I think that this is the best line so far---some outstanding designs and the colors are fabulous.

Something new that we will be doing the rest of Spring and through Summer---we will be having our Sidewalk Sale the first Saturday of each month through August. This will give you an opportunity to get all the latest and best sale items that we have to offer that will only be available that day---plus Downtown Martinsburg will also be holding similar sales with special vendors, food, music etc. Martinsburg is a groovy place to be the first Saturday of each month!!!

Also, we have had calls looking for NFL fabric. One of my cohorts downtown--All About Fabrics not only has wonderful window treatments, Hunter Douglas blinds but has a wide selection of pillow panels, etc. of the kinds of fabric that Nutmeg Lodge does not carry. Right now they have a wide selection of John Deere-themed fabric and they will soon be getting NFL fabric. If you are looking for something along those lines check them out at the corner of Race and Queen Street or call the shop to get their phone number.

Now that the weather is getting nice, don't forget to make some new pillows for the rocking chairs, new table toppers for the picnic table and new place mats for the deck table.

See you soon---Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, April 7, 2008

HAPPY APRIL!!!! Nutmeg Lodge started April off in a big way with our Sidewalk Sale on Saturday. Unfortunately I was out-of-town for this first of a kind event but it seems that everyone was very happy on Saturday. Nutmeg Lodge belongs to Main Street Martinsburg which hosts 1st Saturday events all through Spring and Summer and we will continue to hold this type of event throughout Spring and Summer as well. This Saturday's event was also to welcome our new neighbor Eastern Panhandle Bicycle Company--I stopped in today on my way back into town and the new owner was very happy with the reception he has received. It will be a very nice addition to us and Laber's at 301 Winchester Ave.

This week we will continue our annual Spring Fling event with our 25% store-wide prices. Don't let this great opportunity pass you by. We have held this event now for six years and it should be a fairly standard item on your calendar.

Our work is continuing to get ready for the quilt show season. I have mentioned before that the first event is Hagerstown---we have a flier with a $1.00 discount for your admission. Come in and pick one up then come to the show. I personally know of several outstanding quilts that will be on display as well as some great Silent Auction items for you to bid on.

Stay dry and come in to see us this week---Barbara
