NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, May 25, 2008
Back from Texas and it is very late but I wanted to get the blog posted before I unpack. I had a wonderful time--the weather was perfect, 100 degrees and 100% humidity--I loved it!!! The food was fabulous, Margaritas, Tex Mex, What-a-Burger--I loved it!!! The wedding was beautiful, bride and groom were perfect---I loved it!!! Robyn and I had loads of fun, all the kids came down and spent the weekend at the beach house so I got to stay at the loft but spend time on the beach as well---all in all, everything was the best!!
Judy and Marcy had fun while I was away---if you didn't get by and enjoy the fun, check to find out when we will do this event again.
We had a lot of new things come in before I left---a couple of the Cumberland gals was in for a birthday and loved some of the new fat quarter bundles. I have a feeling we will have some more new things this week.
We are really working hard to get everything ready for the QU show. This is the first of the BIG shows this season--don't miss this great event. If the gas prices are bothering you, get a couple of friends together to do a car pool. Gas split 4 ways can really make the trip easy on everyone and you can spend the day with friends as well. Please don't forget to stop by the booth--there are so many great things for Nutmeg Lodge show booth, you really don't want to miss out.
See you soon---hope you had a great Holiday Weekend Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, May 18, 2008
Such a busy week!!! The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was a great affair, thanks to all who stopped by. We have some great pictures in the Photo Gallery thanks to Gaylor Offerdahl. I hope that you will enjoy seeing the event as much as we enjoyed the event itself.
I mentioned last week about Operation Kid Comfort---if you have not had an opportunity to inquire about a kit, never fear---Nutmeg Lodge will be offering kits along with some simple patterns and a coupon for fabric to construct your project. Stop by in a couple of weeks to pick up your kit and thanks again for all your interest in this worthwhile effort.
I'm sure that most of you know someone who has Type 1 diabetes. In an effort to help find a cure for diabetes and in support of Carolyn Thalman, a friend of Nutmeg Lodge who has diabetes, we are participating in the Sneaker Sales Program. You may stop by, call or email a pledge to buy a Sneaker--every sneaker sold will have your name on it and be placed in the store, each Sneaker represents a step toward the cure for diabetes. For more information you can visit www.jdrfcapitol.org. And, thanks for your help.
We still have spots available for our new block-of-the-month Holiday Chorus---a 4 month project is just $30.00 per month. This great new quilt program will begin in June and finish in September just in time to get it quilted for the Holidays or for the perfect present for a deserving recipient.
New fabric on the shelves and a new floor plan at the shop---stop by and see us this week, we have answers to all your quilting questions. See you soon---Barbara
PS I'm off to Texas for a couple of days---check on Judy and Marcy on Friday for some extra fun. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, May 11, 2008
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!! I sincerely hope that each of you have had a wonderful day, that each was treated royally and deservedly!!!! Personally, I have celebrated a grandson's birthday and my day as well--have eaten and laughed to excess.
This is a very exciting week for Nutmeg Lodge and I hope that many of you will be able to celebrate with us. On Wednesday, May 14 at 12:00 noon the City of Martinsburg will officiate with the Mayor and City Counsel a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to commemorate the businesses at 301 Winchester Ave. Please come and witness this occasion, enjoy a light refreshment and participate in the specials and coupons we will be offering that day.
We unveiled a new block of the month on Saturday. Holiday Chorus is a wonderful and richly textured project perfect for the 2008 Holiday Season. Beginning in June, this four-part quilt will be available at $30.00 per month. A 60" square quilt with original artwork birds in beautiful splendor among lovely star blocks, come in and see this great new project or call us with your order. We are only doing 20 kits and 10 are already spoken for.
For all who received membership to the First Choice Fabric Club, this Saturday, May 17 in the "backroom" with special discounts and punches for this select club.
Recently we have had inquiries about Clubs---you can always join a club--membership fee does not change, we quickly bring you up-to-date and you have all the patterns, etc. that have occurred during club thus far. If you still are unsure about each club, stop by and let us explain the workings of each.
On Saturday we had inquiries about a service project that Carol Jones was mentioned in a recent newspaper article. This project provides lap quilts for young children of service men and women serving abroad plus pillows for older children. You contact the person in charge who sends you pictures printed on fabric, you choose a simple design, provide the fabric, construct and quilt a simple and small quilt, then you mail the finished quilt to the recipient whose address has been provided. The information is as follows:
Susan Simms, Operation Kid Comfort, 1-800-1260 x 14.
Need more information, call the shop and I will explain further.
So much going on right now it is hard to remember everything that I am supposed to tell you. Please come in on Wednesday for our big day, stop by and check out all that is going on. See you soon........Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, May 4, 2008
If the saying is true "April Showers bring May Flowers" every one's gardens are about to burst forth with abundant blooms. These last few days have been glorious and the promise of more beautiful weather is reassuring that the gardens will soon be producing for some time.
Yesterday was a perfect day for First Saturday events. If you didn't make it downtown and to Nutmeg Lodge, we missed you but we have many more "firsts" and the fun will be just as good next month. We started a new club yesterday and will offer one more chance this month to join. This club was Judy's idea and I will attempt to explain it. We are calling it First Choice Fabric Club. Yesterday you would have received a coupon that will allow the bearer to purchase fabric from our backroom on the 3rd Saturday of the month. This fabric will be new fabric that has not made it's way onto the floor. While purchasing this select group of fabric you will receive 10% plus a punch. Membership into this club is dependent upon shopping on the 1st Saturday on the Sidewalk. As I mentioned, this month you will have one more opportunity to join--come by this week thru Saturday, shop outside the big doors and receive a membership card. Each month we will offer a membership card to all sidewalk shoppers on the 1st Saturday. If this is muddy--come in and we will explain. I think this is going to be a fun club.
When I first moved to Martinsburg some of the people I first met are people I share a friendship to this day--one of those people was Millie Ryman. This week Millie came to the shop with a box of collectible toy sewing machines. A thoughtful and appreciated gift, I hope that all of you will stop by and see Millie's machines on display with the other of our collection. Again, my thanks to Millie for her thoughtful addition to our top shelf.
We are working double time to get ready for the next big show---Quilter's Unlimited Show in Chantilly. I will give you more info on this great show later.
Come in, join our new club, see you soon---Barbara
