NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, October 26, 2008
For some reason, this week seemed really long, and yet it flew by---go figure. After doing the show last week, it seemed that I hit the ground running for the past week. A machine quilting class, several club meetings and other exiting stuff. If you haven't checked out the class schedule, do so soon. We have another machine quilting class coming up this week with a couple of openings. Also a finishing class this week as well. Don't miss out on this great technique class. If you have never had a class in how to finish your quilt, then you really owe this to yourself. If you have a class with someone else, you might want to consider this class. I always say that there is something to learn from everyone and I probably bring a couple of things to the table that might be new for you and, perhaps, something that you had not learned before.
This time next week, we will have officially turned our clocks back. Now really is time to get cracking on those Christmas projects--tick tock. I know this is a broken record, but panels are such a quick and easy gift. Even if you are shopping elsewhere for larger, more expensive presents--a panel tucked in your other gifts will make the recipient feel really special.
I spent today working on the Christmas House for Mainstreet Martinsburg's Snowflake Village. Stay tuned for more information on this---if you live in or around Martinsburg, you are in for a treat downtown this Holiday season. If you are out-of-town, you really will want to make the trip up one evening to see all the beautiful decorations and experience a real old-fashioned Christmas.
In addition to new fabrics, we have some great new books. And, FYI, we have some great ideas for Black Friday---stay tuned for more on this.

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, October 19, 2008
Back from Bel Air and the Flying Geese Quilt Show. What a great show!!!!. Those gals really know how to quilt and shop. The booth was busy the whole time. My daughter, Rhonda helped me and also had her Bee Bags for sale. We enjoyed hanging out together and seeing all the great gals from that area. I also so a number of great people that make their way to Nutmeg Lodge on a regular basis. The quilts were great and they also had the Ami Simms Alzheimer's exhibit. What a stirring group of quilts---well worth seeing.
I am at a loss to tell you everything that is happening at the shop. Because I have been gone for several days and, quite frankly am really tired, my mind is a blank. I can tell you that I will not be in Houston this week. I had decided some weeks ago that I just didn't want to make the trip and be depressed by what I saw. My friend Robyn is coming for a visit after Market and I have someone who is covering the market floor for me and will get me all the info I need to order all of the new patterns, etc. We won't miss out on too much except some of the gossip. I will be able to give you a good reporting about the market reaction to Robyn's new fabric line. I can tell you already that it has already been delivered to Australia and has already sold out there and the Australian distributors have reordered. Hang on to your hat---I predict that this line will once again break all records for sale of a single line of fabric. Robyn currently holds that title and I think this new line with RJR will beat her old record. I'll let you know more about that in a few weeks.
Hope you had a great weekend---I look forward to seeing you at the shop this week. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, October 12, 2008
I can't believe how gorgeous the weather is---I have been under a quilt every night doing some repair on an antique quilt--it has felt so cozy. And then, the days are just idyllic with warm inviting temperatures. Oh well, it will come to an end soon but we can all enjoy the beauty and comfort for the time being.
Our Fall Fling was a real success---thanks to all who came in and shopped. Now it is on to the business of getting "down to business". I have a class schedule ready--Yes, you heard that right. A class schedule is ready to roll. I have concentrated on a number of technique classes. So many of you have expressed a desire to learn and/or brush up on your techniques for better piecing, finishing and applique not to mention the ever popular machine quilting. I have also added a bag project that you really won't believe until you come for this great class.
NUTMEG LODGE CLASS SCHEDULE

APPLIQUE PRIMER Tues., Nov. 4* 11:00-1:00 Barbara $25.00

*This class is also offered Tues., Dec. 2 11:00-1:00
EASY NUTMEG STAR Wed.&Fri., Dec. 12 and 14 10:00-1:00 Barbara $50.00
A two-part class, you will learn half/square triangles, four-patch, putting it all together, correct use of your rotary cutter and all the ins and outs of understanding patterns, seam allowances and proper construction techniques. This is a perfect class for a new quilter or someone who would like to "brush up" on techniques.
I hope that these classes will interest you. Several have already mentioned that there were no evening classes. Sorry---I just could not find an evening that really worked well with me because of other obligations. After the first of the year, we will have more evening classes and will also be offering some new and exciting projects.
