NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, November 30, 2008
I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving!!! We had an outstanding day on Black Friday. Thanks to Marcy and Judy it was a success as usual. They really have created a great event. I actually worked that day---sorry to say it is the first time that I have been in town. We were extremely busy but it was so much fun. Thanks to all of you who came out so early to enjoy the bargains.
This week we have Santa's Workshop on Friday. Come at 5:00 and plan to get some projects finished or just enjoy the fun. Bring canned items for Loaves and Fishes. They are very low on mac and cheese (the blue box is preferable), canned spaghetti sauce and pasta are the staples that they always need. That is your admission---also bring a snack to share with everyone. We will have tables set up for basting, both cutting tables available. A limited number of spots for sewing machines, ironing boards and chairs to sit in for binding sewing, applique, etc. We are looking forward to a fun evening.
Saturday night is the Christmas parade downtown. You really want to plan to come down for this fun event, plus Santa will be in the Ice Palace this weekend.
We have the remaining Christmas fabric marked down 30% off. It is still not too late to make a Christmas project and definitely not too late to start thinking about next year's projects. Remember there won't be any Christmas fabric until July.
We also have two 6600Ps on sale. Come in and talk to us if you are interested in gifting yourself with an upgrade. Also it's not too late to tell Santa that you would like one under the tree.
See you at Nutmeg Lodge this week. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, November 23, 2008
Well another busy week!!!! The tree lighting downtown was just as I predicted---MAGICAL!!! Even though it was more than cold, the crowd was huge and everyone seemed to totally enjoy the magic. Our open house on Saturday was great!!! Thanks to everyone who came out and shopped. And, of course, our Kelly was a star on Saturday night with the Berkeley Belles who sang their hearts out. If you didn't catch the great show, don't be left behind the next time they appear--we will alert you on this website.
Today really was a day of rest for me and after church I spent the rest of the day with my BFF Anthony Hess from Flowers Unlimited. We actually went browsing and shopping at a darling little boutique and a couple of big box stores. The thing that I was most struck with is that right here in Martinsburg we have some wonderful shopping opportunities and you don't have to spend money on gas to get there. Actually at the little boutique across the river we saw many of the same thing that Anthony has at Flower's Unlimited and at Macy's and Target we saw knock-off's of the high end items in his shop and they are more expensive. Just like fabric, if you buy at a chain store you are definitely getting lesser quality and not always at a lower price. At any rate, when you venture out to shop don't forget that right here in our little town we have great opportunities for unique and wonderful gifts. And, even more important if you decide to make that gift it is even more wonderful.
Next to come is BLACK FRIDAY. We will open at 8:00 and close at 3:00. Bargains, door prizes, and snacks will be the order of the day---don't miss out on the great bargains.
There are many more things that are coming up--stop by and get all the information at the shop. In a conversation with someone recently, we remarked that if anyone finds nothing to do in Martinsburg, they are not reading the paper or checking out our counter because there are usually so many events that I can't make them all.
Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving and I'll see you soon at Nutmeg Lodge. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, November 16, 2008
November really is clicking by awfully fast---it is true that time flies when you are having fun. This week the open house events downtown at businesses owned by my friends and fellow shopkeepers got underway. I tried to make all of them and believe that I was successful. I hope that you too got an opportunity to visit all the great shops on Queen Street and begin shopping for Christmas. We are so fortunate in Martinsburg to have a great many fine retail opportunities.
Our own Open House will be this coming Saturday from 10:00 to 3:00. Most of our merchandise has arrived, much of our decorating has been accomplished. We are excited about offering you the finest in fabric, unique kits for quick and easy projects and some wonderful stocking stuffers with the quilter/sewer in mind. Don't forget also that we have gift certificates in every denomination you choose.
On Saturday our friend and neighbor Pam Wagoner of Depot Florist will also be celebrating her open house as well as her 10 years in business. Located just around the corner on King Street from 9:00 to 4:00 you can enjoy unique shopping at both Nutmeg Lodge and Depot Florist all at the same time. Refreshments, door prizes and fun galore!!!! Don't miss out.
Then on Friday night , November 21 downtown---come and experience the tree lighting and the start of the magic that is truly unique to Martinsburg. The lights, the tree, the ice palace, the snowflake village. Every bit a small town experience that can't be had anywhere but Martinsburg.
We also have Black Friday (Nov. 28) to look forward to and our Santa's Workshop (Fri., Dec. 5). I am especially excited about Santa's Workshop. We will be collecting food for CCap/Loaves and Fishes. Loaves and Fishes especially needs Mac & Cheese, canned spaghetti sauce and spaghetti. Please come and enjoy Santa's Workshop and please share what you have with others by helping our local food bank for so many in need this time of year.

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, November 9, 2008
A busy weekend and now it is time to start the decorating for Christmas. I does seem odd that in retail Christmas comes before Thanksgiving. Oh well, it is what it is. We will be turning the store into a Christmas treasure--getting the tree decorated, the windows decked and everything looking cinnamon and peppermint--so to speak. This is all to get ready for our Open House which is Saturday, November 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We have a number of kits for small, easy projects perfect for Christmas gifts. Stocking stuffers and a whole lot of cheer for you to enjoy. Please put it on your calendar.
The night before that, you can come downtown and enjoy the tree lighting on the square in front of the library. This is going to be a magical night downtown so don't forget.
The next day, come to Nutmeg Lodge's open house, go around the corner to Depot Florist for their open house and then that evening come to Hedgesville High School for the Belles of Berkelely Christmas concert. Our own Kelly Heldreth will be singing that night.
The next week, on Friday following Thanksgiving, come and enjoy Black Friday at Nutmeg Lodge. Beginning at 8:00 a.m. we will be offering sliding discounts, huge discounts on sewing machines and quilting systems, door prizes and loads of fun.
And then on Saturday, December 6 in the evening will the the annual Christmas Parade when Santa officially arrives in Martinsburg!
This coming weekend you can enjoy the open house at Flowers Unlimited. They have a ton of wonderful and unique Christmas decorations and gift items.
As you can see---there is a lot of wonderful things going on in Martinsburg this holiday. The decorations downtown make King and Queen Streets look like New York City. The Snowflake village down on the square each weekend will offer you a lot of unique shopping opportunities for your Holiday shopping. Nutmeg Lodge will be selling finished quilted projects.
As you can tell, I am very excited about all that is transpiring over the next month. And, don't forget that Nutmeg Lodge will catalog your wishes for your shoppers and we also have gift certificates. See you soon. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, November 2, 2008
I had a very busy weekend--I hope yours was nice. I did get all of my plants put to sleep with mulch securely pulled over their heads, all the last growth of daisies and lavender snipped off and the grass mowed for the final time. The cushions and umbrellas are safely stored away. Now all there is to do is wait for the real cold weather, some Christmas decorations and maybe some snow. In the meantime I have been sewing some bindings down and getting things ready for the booth we will have at our Snowflake Village downtown during Christmas. I have also been busy working on the decorations for our downtown display. Put November 21 on your calendar, that is our tree lighting ceremony. You don't want to miss this wonderful evening. Then Dec. 6 is the Christmas parade complete with Santa Claus.
Now for the really fun stuff!! Come in this week and pick up your bookmark with all the dates and details for what is going on at Nutmeg Lodge for the upcoming holiday season.
First, on Saturday, November 22 we will be having an Open House. This event will help kick off our holiday offerings. We will be all decorated for the season and will have some fun and inspired kits for you to make those final gifts. We will also have some fun stocking stuffers on and under our tree for you to take home. Then on Friday, November 29 we will host our 4th Annual Black Friday event. This is a great event that Judy and Marcy have really perfected. New this year will be the hours---8 a.m. till 3 p.m. Starting early we will offer great savings that will decrease as the day goes along. (Again, stop by for a bookmark to give you the details). And, on Friday, Dec. 5 from 5:00 - 9:00 we will sponsor Santa's Workshop. This is an event where Santa's helpers will be at the shop to help you finish your projects. Basting, sewing down bindings, finishing up a top or just sitting and stitching (either hand piecing, applique, hand quilting) come in and enjoy a fun filled evening.
I run into people all the time that compliment the staff for their expertise and their eagerness to help you with what ever. Thank you for noticing what I know---the staff at Nutmeg Lodge is the best. If you need anything or any kind of help, you can always know that at Nutmeg Lodge your problem is our delight.
