NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, January 25, 2009
So much to tell you so I won't beat around the bush.
First, next Sunday, February 1 we will celebrating Super Bowl with a big day. We will be open from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Because we could not agree on what colors we liked best---not everyone is a Cardinal or Steeler fan-- we decided to have a "more you spend, the more you save" sale. Here is how it works.
Spend up to $25.00 and get 5% off your purchase price
up to $49.99 and get 10% off
up to $74.99 and get 15% off
up to $99.99 and get 20% off
over $100.00 you get 25% off
That sounds pretty good and a great deal of fun. We will also have snacks to go along with the "party".
Robyn's new fabric will be arriving any day. The April issue of American Patchwork and Quilting has arrived. It has a fabulous article and a wonderful pattern using the new line. I am hoping that we will have the quilt in the store shortly. If you are interested in a kit. The cost is $95.00. A finishing kit with binding and backing is $45.00. If you cannot get to the shop, call 304-262-6633 and we can mail the magazine and then ship the kit when our fabric arrives. There are additional shipping and handling charges.
Just as a reminder about 2009 policies at Nutmeg Lodge. Birthday fat quarters are $1.25 and $1.75 for batiks. Birthday fat quarters must come from the "fat quarter wall". No bundles apply and we do not cut birthday fat quarters. The girls on staff are masterful at keeping that wall stocked and straight.
In an effort to be green we offer a 3% discount on regular priced merchandise. Bring your Nutmeg Lodge bag or any other bag you fancy. We do not discount on sale or otherwise discounted items.
We have now closed the Thimbleberries Club. I believe that we have one or two openings in Willing Hands if you are interested. Primitive Club gets up and running this week with an adorable project. This club meets the 4th Wed. of the month. Check us out at 10:00 a.m. on Wed.
Our beginning patchwork class--Easy Nutmeg Star has added an additonal time and both classes are now full. If you are interested in this wonderful class, check back the middle of March when we will schedule this class again.
A number of other classes are almost full so if you are interested don't delay and sign up soon.
It might snow this week---don't get caught without everything you need for your projects if you can't get out for a few days.
See you soon---Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, January 18, 2009
The crazy weather this week meant waking not knowing what we would be greeted with. The cold on Saturday really did get everyone's attention. The water pipes at the shop were briefly frozen but that was about the only problem we experienced. I hope that you too did not have too many obstacles. It did bring to mind a concept that Carol Gruber brought to me once---a car quilt. What an inspired ideas. A small lap quilt made especially for the car. Now when you get in and get your seat belt on, you can get your quilt on your lap and feel that extra warmth and comfort. That would also make a lovely gift as well.
New fabric arrived this week and we got Thimbleberries and Redwork clubs up and running. This week we will be starting the year off for Primitive and Crazy Club. We continued to have people sign up for Saturday Sampler and classes. I believe that we have now closed Thimbleberries and Willing Hands has only a couple of spaces left. If you have not signed up for clubs you probably need to think about which ones your are interested before more are closed. Classes are beginning to fill as well so don't delay on those decisions as well.
Just one more reminder about our Scrap Block Mania. We sold out of the kits last month. The new kits will go on sale the first Tuesday of February. I have just finished another option for this fun little package of fabric.
Stay warm and come to check out what is new on the shelves. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, January 11, 2009
It seems we have been into this year for quite some time---the week was long with the sale, clubs getting started, etc. The bottom line, we were very busy and worked very hard to get things up and running. Thanks to all of you who came in and supported all that we have planned for 2009.
A rousing start to Willing Hands--everyone loved the way the sweet little angel looked. It will be a really fun year. If you would like to join this great group, we still have a few openings.
Scrap Block Mania was also a great success. We sold out of our first series of kits. Don't forget you can get into this fun event next month. We put the little packets out the first Tuesday of the month.
The Saturday Sampler group was out in great numbers both morning and afternoon. We had to cut some more kits and everyone seemed to be excited about this year's project. If you would like to join the "$5.00 quilt" fun, come in and we can get you started.
This coming week we kick off Thimbleberries Club on Thurs. evening and Fri. morning. We can still accommodate a few more people in this group as well.
Redwork Club is ready to kick off with its lovely baskets. This was our new club last year and the ladies in this group are just fabulous!!!!
Come in on Tuesday to say Happy Birthday to Cathy. Have a piece of birthday cake, shop and get 10% off your purchase.
Nutmeg Lodge is hosting the Main Street Martinsburg Mixer this Wednesday. Come in from 5-7 for a very special cocktail party. We would love to see you. Also, on Friday morning I will be on Panhandle Live Radio at 9:30. Hans Fogle has asked me to stop by and talk about our Make A Difference Club. A number of you stopped by with donations to our food basket, cell phones, eye glasses and several donations to our Make A Difference Tin. Thanks so much for your participation.
See you soon---Barbara
PS. Check our our classes and sign up soon.

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, January 4, 2009
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! HAPPY 2009!!!!! Here at Nutmeg Lodge we are all so excited about the things that we have planned for 2009. Everyone on staff and me have been so busy getting everything ready to run this coming week. Willing Hands will have their first meeting with the unveiling of the redesign of the Folk Art Angel quilt. This design was originally done by my great friend and now I have redone the pattern using her new fabric line for the kits. Saturday Sampler will get up and running this coming Saturday. We are back to the sampler blocks as we have done in previous years but this year's twist is Thangles. Each month you will make a 12-inch block using Thangles as your triangle paper (which will be included in your monthly package). Judy is working on a unique setting option that will please everyone. We will be offering two color-ways--dark country and light pastel. The other clubs will follow and I will update you each week on these options as well.
Now for the really good stuff!!! New programs at Nutmeg Lodge.
The first new program that we will be offering is a new Scrap Mania program. The first Tues. of each month you can stop by, pick up a $5.00 package of light and dark strips. Each package will make 8 6-inch broken 9-patch blocks. We will have setting options for you and information on the number of blocks needed for various size quilts. You will need to buy a package of Thangles which will make an entire quilt. We have all of this written up for you at the shop plus a sample if you need more information. Remember this program starts this Tuesday.
Our next and most wonderful "club" is called our Make a Difference Club. We also have this written out for you to pick up as well, but in a nut shell here is how it goes. Come in and drop off non-perishable food for Loaves and Fishes, bring in a cell phone for the Women's Center, or drop off a pair of glasses for Revision and you will receive a FREE Fat Quarter. We will also have a tin at the cash register for donations to my Make a Difference Fund. This money will go towards a fund that I helped start at my church for those who might need a hand from time-to-time. We will also be keeping a log of your donations and you will receive Make a Difference Bucks for your generosity. These "bucks" will be used at a silent auction for really great items. The Make A Difference Club will also be hosting Friday night workshops like we did in December to work on projects and from time-to-time sew projects for various needs. I think that 2009 is a year that we can all make a difference. If you are retired, looking for something meaningful to spend your time on or just want to add an activity that will benefit someone or something in our community, I urge you to find a place to donate your time and talent to. If you need help in finding that right place for your time and talents, talk to me and I will help you find just the right fit for you. We are all walking this path together and lending yourself to a "cause" is what life is all about.
In addition to our Birthday Bash program, we are adding the ability for you to celebrate our staff birthdays. Each month that a staff member has a birthday, we will have a "birthday party" on a day that person is working. You come in, say happy birthday, have a piece of cake and then get a discount on your purchases that represents the birthday date. Cathy's birthday is Jan. 10 and we will celebrate with a 10% discount on Tues. Jan. 13. Is this going to be fun or what?
2009 really does offer us lots of new beginnings and possibilities. Now is the absolute best time to plan all the great projects you can make this year and have ready for the best giving you have ever done before. Our 8th annual January Sale is in full swing and will run through Saturday. This is the best time to get started for birthday presents, graduation gifts, wedding and anniversary and Christmas as well.
Don't forget that our new classes are on line as well as written out for you to pick up and peruse. We have a great class lineup. Sign up today and make this the year that you out-did yourself in every way possible.
See you soon----Barbara
