NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, February 22, 2009
Well it's really late but I am trying to do the blog on Sunday. I leave in a few hours for Charleston on my Leadership Berkeley Class. I'm really excited about this trip---we will see the Legislature in session, meet the Governor, interact with the State Chamber of Commerce and tour the State Supreme Court. I will return on Tuesday evening.
We had a really great week at Nutmeg Lodge. My birthday and Kelly's birthday were both celebrated in style. Cathy and Marcy both baked wonderful cakes and we enjoyed sharing them with everyone who came in.
The best part of the week for me was today. This morning I had two wonderful friends from Houston come in for a surprise visit. Gerry Ann Corbin and Marie Pasternak were a sight for sore eyes. We didn't have a lot of time to visit but it sure was precious. Then this evening I had a surprise post on my Facebook from another old Houston friend. Does life get any better than than? What do they say about friends, old or new all of my friends are gold.
Robyn's fabric continues to be the hottest thing going--we have gone through so many bolts and still we need to reorder. If you are looking for the kit from the magazine project call or email us. The price is $95.00 and $55.00 for the finishing kit (binding and backing). We are running a couple of days behind because of the numbers but will get them all ready for you in just a couple of days.
We have some darling new cowboy fabric for that little cowpoke in your life.
Cathy and Pattie will love to see you on Tuesday and I will see you on Wednesday. Barbara

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, February 15, 2009
A belated Happy Valentine's Day. I just got back from Retreat. Thanks to all the great gals who attended. Today was my birthday and they made the day so very special. We all had such a fabulous time. The number of things that got finished was unbelievable. FYI, I am hosting another weekend the first of May. May 1, 2 and 3. This is a wonderful opportunity to come spend three days with great people, have great food and get so many things finished or started. Either way it is an unbelievable time. Call or email me for more information.
Judy reported that there was a fun time at the shop as well. Robyn's new fabric line has fairly flown off the shelves. This weekend I designed and made a new stripy quilt with some of the blue pieces from the line--of course that fabric is now gone as well. We are still offering kits of the quilt from the American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. We will be reordering all of the pieces this week so that we can satisfy your desires. Call, email or come in to get in on this totally beautiful line of fabric.
CONGRATULATIONS to Patty Wilmoth!!!! She became a grandmother this weekend. Silas Wilmoth weighed in at 7 pounds 2 oz. Mother, Dad, Grandmothers and Grandfathers are all apparently doing well.
I am working on getting the show schedules and dates to Kathy to post on the web site. Stay tuned for all the upcoming events.
Hope to see you soon---Barbara
PS I forgot a really important item!!!! Tuesday we will be celebrating my birthday with cake and a 15% discount. Sorry that I forgot something so special for you!!!!!

NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, February 8, 2009
Sorry that the blog update is late on Sunday but I have been out-of-town. This was my "Christmas present" weekend. My daughter, Rhonda has for the past three years gifted me with a play at the Hippodrome in Baltimore and then dinner. This year my treat was Grease with a special appearance by Taylor Hicks--he had the role of Teen Angel. What a thrill to see him in person---he is better than he appeared on American Idol. A great performance of Grease--the music was great--the cast was great---our seats were great---just a great afternoon. After the play Taylor Hicks sang a song from his new album due out soon. We had dinner at a lovely little french restaurant.
Robyn's new fabric is selling like crazy. The kits for the magazine project are also going like crazy---the girls have been cutting as fast as we can. One update on the finishing kit. We discovered that the yardarge requirement in the magazine was incorrect for the fabric selected---a directional print. Therefore, we have increased the amount of fabric which increased the price to $55.00. We are also doing fat quarter bundles and are taking reservations for those as well. Sorry---I am at a loss to remember what the number of pieces in the bundle and the price. Call the shop or email me this week and I will be able to answer that.
We have gotten more Project Kid Comfort kits. If you would like to help with this worthwhile project to make quilts for kids who has a parent deployed this is a wonderful opportunity. Come in and pick up a kit.
Thanks again to each of you who are so generous with your help with our Make a Difference Club. We took a huge basket of food to Loaves and Fishes last week and will take another this week with your generous donations. The cell phones are mounting up and will be delivered to the Women's Center this week as well. Just don't forget that this need does not go away---we are all making such a wonderful difference in our community and together we will continue to do so.
Looking forward to seeing you soon----Barbara

SNOW ALERT: Check this space on Tuesday, Feb. 3 to learn if we are closed---no post, we are open!!!
PS to post below: Lynn UpDate: Pattie, Marcy and I went to visit Lynn today. The really good news is that she is feeling a lot better. We were there when one of her 7 doctors came in and told her that she could possibly go home in the next few days. Again, as I have stated below, call the shop to get updates and inquire about cards, etc.
NOTES FROM THE LODGE Sunday, February 1, 2009
A very eventful week---snow, ice, cold, wind, sunny, warm. Can you get any more out of one week? Oh, I guess we could have had some rain to round things out. Oh well, we are about to get some more excitement according to the soothsayers. We did close both Tuesday and Wednesday--just a reminder, if it looks iffy, call the shop, we will call and let you know when we are opened.
Today was our annual Super Bowl Sale. Everyone on staff was in except for Kelly. We had a lot of fun, got a lot done and enjoyed a lot of shoppers---several people we had not seen for a while. It was good to catch up with old friends.
Coming up this week: It is the first Tuesday so our Scrap Block Mania packages will be going out for sale. If you got started last month, don't delay to come in and pick up your second little bag. If you have not started, now is the perfect time to do so.
We have our Valentine fabric and panels out. A great touch to warm up your house and get into the spirit of a lovely day on the calendar.
The most exciting news around Nutmeg Lodge is the anticipated arrival of Robyn's fabric. It should be in the first of the week. The quilt that was featured in American Patchwork and Quilting will also be arriving. If you would like to see it in person---stop by. If you would like a kit, call and/or stop by and place your order.
An update on our Make a Difference Club---I have been so humbled and excited about the overwhelming response to our efforts. Thank you so much to all of you who have come in (some more than once) with food, cell phones, glasses and donations. This is an effort that is on going---my continued thanks for remembering those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Thanks again for your generosity.
Now on a sad note---our dear friend Lynn Fitzharris is in the hospital. I will be visiting her tomorrow. If you would like to send good wishes and/or inquire about Lynn, call the shop and we will up date you and give you information. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and coming home soon.
I hope you enjoy the game this evening---stay warm, keep busy with your quilting projects, and come to see us soon.
